New Discoveries in North-Western Poland


Polish Oil and Gas Mining Company in collaboration with LOTOS Petrobaltic have started drilling exploratory well on a concession Kamień Pomorski. According to the estimates in the area of work being prepared, in commune Golczewo (West Pomeranian voivodeship) may be 7.5 million boe.

-PGNiG will be sharing knowledge with equally experienced partners, which brings hope for discovering new, significant oil fields in the northern part of Poland. – said Piotr Woźniak, Chairman of the Board PGNiG SA.

– LOTOS expands its own competence in the exploration and extraction of land-based hydrocarbons, which we would like to use in future projects onshore type. – says Marcin Jastrzębski, Chairman of the Board LOTOS S.A. group – We have many years of experience in marine extraction. – he added.

Location of well Stawno-1 to over 3.2 km depth was specified based on the previous interpretation of the 3D seismic image. Drilling works are run by Exalo Drilling S.A., a member of the PGNiG Group.

The cooperation between PGNiG and Grupa LOTOS in the field of oil and gas exploration has commenced in 2012. Since then, both companies analyzed the geological potential of several land exploration rights owned by PGNiG.

For the further surveys has been chosen the most perspective concession areas located in the Pomeranian, West Pomeranian and Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodships.

In the next stages of cooperation experts from LOTOS Petrobaltic and PGNiG have prepared a program of activities on selected concessions and subjected them to economic assessments.

In this program has been defined essential work in seismic research, exploratory and extraction wells.

On the concession area Kamień Pomorski both companies cooperate since 2013. Together they made a 3D seismic photo, and a year later began to cooperate with PGNiG S.A. in the vicinity of Górów Iławecki (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Province). So far, they have done 2D seismic research there.
